Naomh
Olaf 1-6 Ballinteer St Johns 1-7
Naomh
Olaf threw away the chance of winning the Adult Football
League Division 2 title on Sunday 8th December in O'Toole
Park. Having led by seven points at the break they looked
odds on to finish off the task in the second, however they
hadn't banked on a spirited comeback by St Johns.
Ballinteer started the brightest and scored an early point
against a slight breeze. Olafs responded well to take full
control of the first half. Points from Mick Murray, Alan
Lyons (2) and Sean Gibbons helped Olafs to a three-point
lead. It was at this stage that Alan Lyons struck for a
well worked Goal. Olafs tagged on another point before the
break to lead by seven at the break. 1-5 to 0-1.
Ballinteer came out with all guns blazing at the start of
the second half. An early goal started them on the comeback
trail. They slowly pegged back Olafs advantage and the teams
were level with just 10 minutes remaining. They continued
their progress and tagged on 2 more points. Things at this
stage were looking ominous for Olafs. However a point from
a free reduced the margin to the bare minimum. Try as would,
they just couldn't get the ball over the bar and Johns hung
on for victory.
